He caught these words and repeated them in spirit.
'Death has gone,' he told himself, 'it's gone'.
He took in some air, stopped halfway through a deep breath, stretched out, and died.

In the closing chapters, I was the living Ivan Ilyich. Everything that I thought was right, was wrong.
